antena 3, a new look for its 35th anniversary

a3 is a custom typeface commissioned by Antena 3 (Atresmedia) on the occasion of its 35th anniversary. Atresmedia is one of Spain’s leading media groups, with a presence in television, radio, and film production. Over the years, it has established a strong position in the industry, supported by major shareholders such as Grupo Planeta and Bertelsmann, through RTL Group.

Once again, following our collaboration on the redesign of La Sexta, the internal design team at Atresmedia invited us to take part in the brand redesign, which was primarily developed once more by the renowned agency Gédéon.

When they contacted us, they were already working with one of our typefaces borna, a geometric sans-serif font with a strong personality, but they were looking for a custom typeface with a distinctive touch, capable of supporting the identity shift.

We proposed a display-oriented typeface inspired by the logo. Starting from Borna, we developed a font with a slightly wider structure. Some ink traps were removed, which helped eliminate its technical appearance, and we then transformed the original font’s ink traps into apertures that end in sharp terminals.

the image above shows the differences between borna and a3 font.

The result is a bold, highly recognizable and contemporary typeface, both highly functional and expressive, with a distinctive brand identity. An additional version was also developed for medium and small sizes, designed to work perfectly on screen while at the same time establishing a unique visual identity closely tied to the channel’s new visual language.
