la sexta, a new typeface for a new expression

la sexta is a custom font-family commissioned by la sexta (atresmedia) for their new identity. Atresmedia is one of Spain’s leading media groups, operating across television, radio and film production. Over the years, it has established a strong presence in the industry, supported by major shareholders such as Grupo Planeta and Bertelsmann, through RTL Group.

From the in-house design team at LaSexta, the second most important television channel within the Atresmedia Group, a key player in the Spanish media landscape known for experimenting with new ways to connect with audiences, we were invited to take part in the network’s rebranding, which on this occasion was led by the renowned agency Gédéon.

at the time they reached out, they were working with one of our retail fonts, Brockmann, a geometric sans serif with a strong personality, but they were looking to develop a custom typeface with a distinctive touch, somehow tied to the symbol of the new rebranding.

Essentially, the most notable change is the shift from a double-storey “a” to a single-storey version, giving it a more geometric, clean, and modern feel. We also introduced subtle, so-called pseudo-serifs on certain characters.

the image above shows the differences between Brockmann and La Sexta font.

The result is a bold, contemporary geometric sans serif that balances clarity with a strong editorial voice. The letterforms are clean and compact, with generous weight and tight proportions that give the typeface a confident on-screen presence across all broadcast applications.

Overall, it is a highly functional yet unmistakably branded typeface—designed to perform seamlessly on screen while establishing a unique visual identity closely tied to the channel’s new language.

la sexta font works both as a display typeface and in medium-sized texts..

The family comprises nine weights (including obliques), ranging from Regular to Black, allowing for a wide range of typographic “color” and clear information hierarchy. It brings consistency, character and flexibility, enabling the channel to communicate with a distinctive and adaptable voice across all its touchpoints.
